Philippine Airport Locations

There are a lot of airports located in the Philippines, from large cities to provincial airports; you can surely find one that you can book for your desired travel plans. There are three classes of airports classified by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP). These are international airports, principal airports, and community airports. Airports that are only owned by the national government are classified by CAAP and the many minor airports and aerodromes within the country are not in any way owned by the national government and still remain unclassified as per the new scheme.
In the past, the airports in the Philippines were classified under the Air Transportation Office or ATO and another used by CAAP which is the organizational successor of ATO. The old system that Ato developed classified five disctinctions under two major categories, domestic and international airports, they were further classified into the following airport types:

a)Primary international airports – main and primary airports which are gateways to the Philippines
b)Secondary international airports – these are airports that are capable of handling international flights but are not classified as primary international gateways. They may or may not service actual international flights and may or may not have active immigration or customs facilities.
c)Trunkline airports or major commercial domestic airports – airports that are located in major cities in the Philippines and support large aircraft. Sometimes, the these are the onluy airports that have a instrument landing system
d)Secondary airports or minor commercial domestic airports – These are domestic airports located in small cities and municipalities and usually have small propeller aircraft. Several of them handle are also capable of accomodating jet aircraft. These airports are open only from sunrise to sunset, but require notification of airport authorities if nighttime landing is necessary.
The New CAAP System
The CAAP system was indtroduced and developed through the Philippine Transport Strategic Study and the 1992 Civil Aviation, it still maintained the current classification of airports like international and domestic airports but “rationalizes” it more by introducing the following types:
a)International airports
b)Principal airports or domestic airports
c)Class 1 principal airports
d)Class 2 principal airports
e)Community airports
